Story and photos by Angie Kay Dilmore
Breakfast is widely regarded as the most important meal of the day. In Southwest Louisiana, these standout diners and restaurants deliver exceptional morning meals to fuel your day with flavor and satisfaction.
KD’s Diner
Locally celebrated for its outstanding food and 24/7 service, KD’s offers breakfast anytime. A standout off-menu favorite is the “Rafferty”: loaded hash browns with ham, turkey, roast beef, bacon, cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and two eggs cooked to order. It's generous enough for two. Another hit is the Southern Chicken over hash browns, topped with cheese, bacon, sour cream, biscuits, and white gravy.

Cotten’s Downtown
Serving breakfast all day, Cotten’s Downtown lets you watch Mr. Al grill orders at the counter.
Best known for hamburgers, their Old Fashioned Hamburger Omelet shines at breakfast. Favorites include the cinnamon roll waffle, Mt. Hashbrown (hash browns piled with bacon, sausage, jalapeños, onion, cheese, white gravy, and a fried egg), and the indulgent donut burger for a sweet start.

Thick, fluffy pancakes dubbed a “short stack” are the real morning magnets.

Southern Spice
For nearly 20 years, Southern Spice has served classic breakfasts: eggs any style, breakfast meats, grits, hash browns, pancakes, and waffles. Owner Danita LeLeux highlights the #1 Special—two eggs, two bacon strips or sausage patties, home fries or hash browns or grits, and toast or biscuit—as a top seller. For lighter appetites, the #6 Special halves it perfectly. Their fresh, fluffy biscuits are irresistible.

Pitt Grill
A Southwest Louisiana staple for decades, Pitt Grill serves all-day breakfast with generous portions at fair prices across four locations. Classics meet uniques like New Orleans-Style Cajun Pan Toast (Cajun bread with powdered sugar and syrup), Eggs in a Hole, and the Breakfast Pile (hash browns, sausage patty, Swiss cheese, two eggs).
