Towns Bluff Heritage Center, located on the Altamaha River just eight miles north of Hazlehurst, Ga., on Hwy. 221 N, acts as a welcome and meeting center for Towns Bluff Park. Picnic shelters, beach and bathrooms are available daily. Also available are 24 park-RV and camping sites, walking trails, welcome/heritage center and boat ramp on Altamaha River. The center is one mile from the confluence of the Ocmulgee, Oconee and Altamaha Rivers.
The Heritage Center houses an ever-growing museum of river and Indian artifacts, some dating back 28 million years. More recently, the historic Altamaha River was a "super highway" for timber rafts and steamboats carrying goods to and from the coast of Georgia.
