Anyone familiar with the kind of bold, historically entrenched elegance of NYC’s NoMad neighborhood will likely notice something slightly askew about Made Hotel. Namely, that it’s awfully cool and laid-back for the area. A small plaque on the floor in front of the entrance is the hotel’s understated version of signage. A neighborhood coffee shop and solid cocktail bar in the lobby draw visitors and locals alike without much pretense. A seasonal, new American restaurant is a funky, boundary-pushing addition to many a foodie’s hit list. A panoramic, plant-filled rooftop cocktail bar looks like a dream loft straight out of Brooklyn. Decor is fresh and minimalist, materials are thoughtfully chosen, furnishings are design-forward, nothing is overproduced, and everything is pretty chill. Food + Drink: Charles Seich (Major Food Group, Ruschmeyer’s), who oversees Made’s food and beverage program, teamed up with chef Greg Proechel (formerly of Le Turtle on the Lower East Side) for the hotel’s headliner: Ferris, a 40-seat, seasonal, New American restaurant with an open kitchen and chef’s counter. Dinner here is an eye-catching affair, with an impressive spread of aged duck breast and platters of Ibérico katsu sando (Japanese cutlet sandwich) routinely stealing the show. Lobby Bar does food from the Ferris kitchen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner alongside beer, wine, and cocktails. Paper, the lobby cafe, serves coffee, tea, and baked goods around a large, rustic communal wooden table. Upstairs at Good Behavior, tiki drinks, craft beer, and large format cocktails flow while guests gawk at the skyline views.

What to Do Nearby
You’re in the heart of Manhattan. Pick a direction and make a day out of it. Walk north and you’ll find all the notable tourist attractions: Herald Square, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, and soon enough, Times Square. Koreatown, also nearby, is a great place to stop when feeling peckish (Osamil is a fantastic little gastropub; Hangawi takes vegetarian food to new heights) or in the mood to shop for K-beauty products (specifically face masks at The Face Shop). Walk west of the hotel and you’re in Chelsea, prime High Line-walking and gallery-hopping territory. Head south, either by foot or train, and the downtown world is your oyster.
Or just stay in NoMad. The neighborhood is a hotbed of great bars (Patent Pending is a speakeasy behind a coffeeshop; The NoMad Bar is the kind of handsome wooden bar you could both impress a date or broker a deal at), elegant eateries (The NoMad Restaurant and its fast-casual cousin Made Nice are both run by Eleven Madison Park alums; Upland is consistently fantastic and booked up in advance), and stylish boutiques (fashion and music label Maison Kitsuné exudes French cool; Project No. 8 in the Ace Hotel sells the best souvenirs). The park the neighborhood is named after, Madison Square Park, is a charming place for a picnic (weather and crowd permitting) — stock up on Italian staples at Eataly before heading over.
