NoMo SoHo: Enchanting Boutique Hotel in New York's Iconic SoHo District

NoMo SoHo: Enchanting Boutique Hotel in New York s Iconic SoHo District

NoMo SoHo
New York
Trendy, $$ ($170)

Searching for quintessential SoHo in New York City? Look no further than the incredibly hip intersection of Crosby and Howard Streets. You’ll watch the likes roll in on your posts of Instagram-worthy, cast-iron facades and charming cobblestone streets. Not to mention NoMo SoHo, an otherworldly hotel on the most nostalgic block in the neighborhood. Benjamin Noriega Ortiz provides the whimsical interior design: on the ground floor, an enchanted garden with a plant-covered trellis and fairy-light-strewn tunnel of love; in the rooms, an over-the-top dreamscape of royal blue carpeting, bright white furnishings, and lots of French toile. It's earth meets sky meets concrete jungle (see the restaurant's graffiti heart wall), and it's the kind of place you could only find in New York.

The Vibe: Urban fairytale come to life. (We don't know of any other hotels that claim to have been inspired by avant-garde filmmaker Jean Cocteau’s 1946 adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.)

Standout Detail: The enchanting passageway that leads from the street to the lobby. Covered with ivy and illuminated with garden lights, it ranks high on the list of the most magical ways to enter a hotel.

This Place Is Perfect For: The downtown explorer, who will love being on a heavenly little street in Manhattan. Effortlessly chic models and their Instagram boyfriends who live for the shot. Serious shoppers who need their next fix within arm's reach.

Rooms: 260 rooms have white platform beds that appear to float like clouds between the royal blue carpet and the ceiling. The walls are intentionally bare so you can focus on the awe-inspiring city views. To get the best, request a room on floor 15 or above (ask for northern exposure for a peek at the Empire State Building, or southern exposure for Freedom Tower views). Rooms and bathrooms are on the small side (starting at 200 square feet) and include free WiFi, a flat-screen TV, and Molton Brown toiletries.

On Site: There’s a state-of-the-art fitness center and on-site restaurant with live music Thursday through Saturday evenings. The indoor/outdoor terrace and Library Bar work for special events and private dining. But with buzzy downtown Manhattan at your fingertips, you’ll want to spend most of your time outside anyway.

Food + Drink: Filled with natural light by day and illuminated by candles and chandeliers at night, NoMo Kitchen's greenhouse-inspired environs make a nice setting for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and notable weekend brunch. In the front patio area, you can order coffee while typing away on your laptop.

Zip around Soho and beyond to Greenwich Village, the Lower East Side, and Tribeca with free bike rentals from the hotel. The best shopping is seconds away, with Reformation, Rick Owens, and Opening Ceremony on the block. From contemporary art at New Museum to art films at Metrograph, cultural institutions abound. Nearby, nostalgic Little Italy has old-world bakeries and trattoria-style restaurants, while Chinatown offers creative cocktails at Mr. Fong’s and Shanghai-style eats at Joe’s Ginger.
