Our journey began with uncertainty about the time investment, but planning quickly revealed an abundance of must-see spots.

With just two million residents across vast open spaces, road tripping means long stretches of stunning scenery: rugged mountains, boulder-strewn deserts, cacti-dotted landscapes, dry riverbeds, and intense sun. Southern towns show life's raw edge—faded homes, empty storefronts, and roadside relics.

Yet, our rental car unlocked surprises: rolling green hills, national parks, scenic byways like the Turquoise Trail, cinematic frontier towns, nuclear history sites, Georgia O'Keeffe inspirations, vast caverns, and blinding white sands.

Starting from Arizona, we explored Silver City and Gila National Forest, then south to Hatch, Carlsbad Caverns, and White Sands National Park. Northward: Roswell, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. Highlights included alien encounters, llama treks, ancient pueblos, Native American history, tarantula migrations, and locust-crunching drives.
