Mexcaltitán: The Cradle of Mexican Heritage

The Magical Town of Mexcaltitán is a small island located in the municipality of Santiago Ixcuintla, north of Nayarit.

 

It is said to be the cradle of Mexicanness, due to its historical relationship with the legendary Aztlán, which according to legend was the site from which the Aztecs left and which gave rise to the founding of Tenochtitlán.

 

Known as the Mexican Venice due to the set of channels that are formed inside the island during the rainy season; they are navigated in rafts.

 

This island will impress you with the beauty of its mangroves and the diversity of birds that inhabit it. But its colorful streets and houses with tile roofs stand out, they transport you to a fairytale destination.
