Coscomatepec: Discover Veracruz’s Mountain Gem and Pico de Orizaba Views
The Citlaltepetl volcano, better known as the Pico de Orizaba, is the main protagonist of the landscapes of Coscomatepec de Bravo, a charming Magic Town at the Veracruz state, located 108 kilometers from de Xalapa.
Coscomatepec attracts climbing lovers from all over the world for conquering its sumit, but its colonial charm, its gastronomy and the crafts work of its people make this place a unique and exceptional tourist destination.
Its name, Coscomatepec, comes from the náhuatl cuezcomatepec, that can be translated as the Trojes hills or a place where seeds are gather. However, it was due to a political and heroic chapter in the life of this place what gave it its full name.
It was during the war of independence the in October, 1813, Nicolás Bravo was at the front of 600 insurgents and he managed to break the siege of the Spanish troops at Coscomatepec. For celebrating this deed, in 1903 the town, once that it got the city rank, changed its name to Coscomatepec de Bravo.
