In the late 1700s, northeastern Georgia was Indian Country. The Cherokees called their town "Estatoe." Tugaloo Valley was home to one of the largest and earliest Cherokee Indian villages in the state. Then, settlers of European descent began moving into the region, making Tugaloo Valley their home. Along the way, Channing "Bill" Hayes, Jr. acquired title to the land, and farmed it for many years during the mid-1900s, plowing over the land roamed by Natives. In the late 1990s, Mr. Hayes decided to sell the land, but at the same time, he wanted it preserved for posterity.

The Stephens County Foundation, a non-profit organization created for the purpose of acquiring Tugaloo Bend Farm, protects and preserves the historic and natural resources of the Tugaloo Corridor. Come walk on the places of those who came before. Nothing but memories and photographs, leave nothing but footprints.
