Discover San Francisco's Best Street Art: Banksy Masterpieces and Mission District Murals
The Globetrottergirls are passionate fans of street and urban art, drawn to its raw energy, urban themes, ephemeral quality, and the thrill of discovering new works by renowned artists.
Having lived in London for three years, we frequently spotted Banksy pieces before they were erased by overzealous councils. We even caught his CCTV artwork on the morning it appeared and his signature rat on the Shepherd's Bush roundabout the same day.
Our excitement peaked in San Francisco when we found three fresh Banksy works!
Reports indicate Banksy visited in late April, leaving six new pieces around the city—coinciding with the U.S. release of his documentary film Exit Through the Gift Shop.
San Francisco's street art scene extends far beyond Banksy. The Mission District is renowned not just for its Mexican and Latin American eateries but for its vibrant murals adorning walls throughout.
These murals began in the 1970s, spearheaded by the local Latin American community and inspired by Mexico's iconic mural movement of the 1930s. Today, over 600 murals and graffiti pieces grace the neighborhood.

Venture beyond Mission Street into the surrounding alleys and side streets to uncover the best hidden gems.
