Presented by Smith’s of Dublin, this event will take place at the Dublin Carnegie in Downtown Dublin!

Prominent storyteller Donald Davis grew up in a culture of storytelling in the Southern Appalachian mountains. Listening to stories from his family provided the foundation for his talent. He began retelling his family stories as a child and started adding to stories with his own life experiences until he was repeatedly asked to “tell it again, on purpose.” Davis has been most attracted to familial stories and those related to his roots and locality.

Davis served as a United Methodist Minister for over twenty years where he continued to utilize his art of storytelling to engage his congregation. He started to receive invitations to perform at events and eventually was courted to perform at festivals and other engagements until he hung up his robe to tell stories full time. Davis has authored several books and original recordings and has been awarded the Circle of Excellence and the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Storytelling Network.

The Dublin Story of Storytelling

Smith’s of Dublin began hosting An Evening of Storytelling to bring arts and culture to downtown Dublin. Smith’s owner, Natalie Curry, initiated this recurring event in Dublin in 2016. Curry grew up attending an annual storytelling event organized by her mother in La Grange which is currently in its 25th year and wanted to bring the tradition to Dublin.
