Downtown Eatonton is a non‑profit organization dedicated to preserving Eatonton, Georgia’s historic and cultural identity. Through public awareness, business development, community events, and the National Main Street Four‑Point Approach, we foster sustainable growth and protect the town’s architectural heritage.

Eatonton, located in Putnam County within Georgia’s Lake Country, boasts a vibrant downtown that blends small‑town charm with thriving enterprises and satisfied visitors. Since 1999, Downtown Eatonton—formerly known as Better Hometown and Main Street—has worked with the National Main Street America program (a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation) to revitalize the commercial district and promote preservation‑based economic development.

Our mission is to champion Eatonton’s historic character by providing resources, advocacy, and programs that support local businesses. We act as a hub for best practices, offer financial incentives such as the Façade Grant Program, and run initiatives like the Briar Patch Economic Vitality campaign. In addition, we host festivals, events, and partnerships that strengthen community ties.
Vision: A downtown that retains its historic architecture while welcoming visitors and nurturing successful businesses. Through the guiding principles of Design, Promotion, Organization, and Economic Vitality, we aim to enhance the town’s appeal and create a stronger, more resilient community.
- Serve as a central source of news, resources, and best‑practice knowledge.
- Elevate the economic well‑being of downtown businesses through targeted programs.
- Foster community engagement through festivals, events, and collaborative partnerships.
