Insider Tips from a Travelzoo Producer: Score Cheap Tickets and the Best Seats

As a producer on Travelzoo’s Entertainment team, I’ve helped members secure tickets for venues nationwide. After researching and testing hundreds of deals, here are my top three proven strategies for getting the best seats at the lowest prices.

Save Money on Tickets

Travelzoo features deals on hundreds of events, but many others don’t offer discounts. You can still save $5–$20 per ticket by purchasing directly at the box office. Online and phone orders often include hefty convenience fees, which you avoid in person. Bonus: Box office staff provide expert guidance on the best seats—leading to my next tip.

Secure the Best Seats

Many theatergoers assume Orchestra or Main Floor seats are superior, but Rear Orchestra may be farther from the stage than Front Mezzanine or Balcony seats. Venues vary, so research first: consult box office staff or past attendees, and review seating charts on the venue or ticketing site. Charts often show how upper levels align with the Orchestra.

Upper levels offer stadium-style seating for better views over heads in front, with the first row providing the clearest sightlines.

For arena concerts, check the stage setup on the seating chart. Higher seats closer to the stage often beat lower, distant ones.

Access “Sold-Out” Shows

Few shows are truly sold out—a little-known industry fact. Premium seats can even appear last-minute. Venues hold tickets pre-sale for artists, promotions, VIPs, etc. As the event nears, unused holds are released quietly. Monitor availability periodically; seats may magically appear closer to showtime!

The exhilarating ride makes it feel as though you’re soaring through the spectacular Valley of Mo’ara on a winged banshee. Although you’ll no doubt be in hurry to try out the motorcycle-like seat that pulses beneath you as though you’re riding a real flying creature, slow down as you walk through the Resources Development Association (RDA) la

Let the deal be the inspirationThe trick is to be flexible with your travel plans to get the most mileage for your dollar. You can get a similar experience in so many different ways. Let’s say you’re looking for a beach getaway; instead of Hawaii, you could trade off for a similar, discounted experience in the Caribbean. Paris can get expensive fast, so you could trade off for Buenos Aires or Quebec. Instead of the Hamptons, take an affordable trip to San Diego. While you may have a specific des
