Embracing Uncertainty: Do You Thrive on Adventure or Prefer the Safe Path?
Recently, I heard on the radio that many employers hesitate to hire candidates who have been unemployed for more than a couple of months.
I was stunned.
Isn't the whole point of unemployment to find a new job? This prompted me to reflect on how such biases make it challenging for those taking career breaks—especially for travel—in today's economy.
A friend pointed out that this is a common practice, advising against extended breaks.
I respectfully disagree.
A career break might not suit those who always choose the safest path. The idea of employability gaps briefly concerned me, but I quickly realized I don't let fear dictate my choices.
A predictable job that covers the bills feels like stagnation to me. Even with goals like saving for travel or launching a business, routine work leaves me restless.
While some find fulfillment in a steady job, home, and family, I thrive on uncertainty and endless possibilities.
This is the allure perpetual travelers describe: the thrill of the unknown, addictive and invigorating. I hope to always pursue it.
The same applies to entrepreneurship. Investing time and money in a new venture is daunting—success isn't guaranteed despite full commitment.
But what's the alternative? Would you rather suppress your ideas and later regret letting fear win?
If fear drives your decisions, challenge it today with one small, scary step toward your dreams.
What about you? Do you prefer predictable days or chasing the unknown?
