A Transformative Wellness Retreat at the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California
“Find my purpose.” “Let go of attachment.” “Sleep better.” “Let go of judgments.”
I sighed with relief as I settled into our first evening at the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California. Hundreds of guests had gathered for this weekend retreat, sharing their intentions when presenter Megan asked what they hoped to gain.
As a longtime admirer of Deepak Chopra’s philosophy—blending science, spirituality, meditation, and life optimization—visiting his center had long been on my bucket list. Though my schedule was packed, this trip arrived at a pivotal moment. My partner Scott and I have meditated daily for three years, taking a simple, unguided approach without mantras or music. This retreat introduced us to Primordial Sound Meditation, a Vedic tradition from India.

Benefits of Meditation for Everyday Peace
Ever wish to feel more peaceful and less reactive amid life’s chaos?
In a world dominated by technology, social media, and endless tasks, we often trap ourselves in conditioned habits. Meditation fosters mindfulness, helping you observe thoughts without attachment. Over time, this reduces reactivity to thoughts and external events.
Our Chopra Center weekend allowed us to recenter. The mindfulness practice has since enhanced our home routines, keeping me present—even in discomfort. It’s transformed my relationship with food: I now distinguish true hunger from emotional escapes, eating mindfully for the first time.

Understanding Primordial Sound Meditation
This technique uses a personal mantra—the universal vibration at your birth time and place—to access the “gap” between thoughts, or pure awareness.
For beginners, the mantra gently redirects a wandering mind. Group sessions at the center include guided prompts, which I found invaluable. Group meditation often feels more potent than solo practice, making it ideal for newcomers.

Ayurvedic massages use herbal oils and techniques tailored to your mind-body type, held in silence for a meditative hour. Our sessions were profoundly relaxing.
