9 Hotels with Official Animal Mascots That Redefine Pet-Friendly Stays
While many hotels welcome pets, these nine exceptional properties go further by employing permanent resident animals as beloved mascots. Meet these furry and feathered staff members during your next stay.
Monti – The Jefferson

Since January 2014, The Jefferson, a luxurious dog-friendly hotel in Washington, D.C., has appointed Lord Monticello—known as “Monti”—as its Executive Canine Officer (ECO). This rescue beagle, found on a beach in Ocean City, Maryland, was introduced to the staff by PAW Rescue. Monti greets guests daily, mingles with visiting dogs, and shares his adventures on Instagram.
Peabody Ducks – The Peabody Memphis

A beloved tradition since 1933, five North American mallards march daily from their rooftop "duck palace" to the Grand Lobby fountain at 11 a.m., led by a Duckmaster along a red carpet. They return at 5 p.m. The custom began when General Manager Frank Schutt placed live decoys in the fountain after a hunting trip.
Buster – Hotel Nikko San Francisco
In early 2015, this Preferred Hotels & Resorts Lifestyle collection member welcomed Buster, a 2-year-old Morkie (Maltese-Yorkie mix), as Canine Operating Officer. Buster promotes the hotel's pet-friendly policies, greets lobby guests, and updates fans on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The Algonquin Cat – Algonquin Hotel

Dating to the 1920s, the Algonquin's iconic cat began with stray Billy, renamed Hamlet by actor John Barrymore. Over the years, 11 rescue cats—including seven Hamlets, three Matildas, and the current Matilda (since 2010)—have resided here. The hotel's feline star has inspired a children's book and thrives on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Parker – Park Hyatt Chicago

In 2016, Park Hyatt Chicago partnered with PAWS Chicago to adopt Parker, a 5-year-old pug missing an eye. Now a permanent resident on North Michigan Avenue, Parker relaxes behind the front desk, suns in NoMi Garden, and delights guests and staff alike.
Carly Copley – Fairmont Copley Plaza

This Boston hotel's adopted black Labrador, Carly Copley, serves as canine ambassador. By appointment, she joins guests on walks or runs, with a booklet of her favorite routes and commands provided—plus a biscuit reward. She greets visitors in the lobby and makes community appearances.
Dakota – Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland

Kimpton hotels pamper pets, and mascot Dakota, a Golden Retriever from Newcastle, Australia, is Director of Pet Relations at the Portland property. As the "grand-puppy" of a former general manager (whose owner works front desk), she greets arrivals with wags and smiles.
Skabenga – The Oyster Box

Named "vagabond" in Zulu, this former stray cat became a celebrity resident at Durban, South Africa's luxe Oyster Box. From guest-fed treats to property patrols and A-list events (like a party for Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco), Skabenga now has his own Facebook page.
Bruno – Timberline Lodge

Since 1937, this historic Oregon ski lodge has hosted St. Bernard pairs Heidi and Bruno, cared for by longtime employees. The latest purebred Bruno puppy is drawing crowds, while Heidi holds court at the Main Lodge front desk.
