Plan Your Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Getaway at Bear Lodges

Discover Bear Lodges, three distinctive B&Bs in Wellsboro, just 90 minutes north of State College and nestled in the heart of Pennsylvania's breathtaking Grand Canyon region. Owner Jim Meade explains that these properties aren't simply accommodations for a great destination—they are the getaway itself.

“We provide a premium destination experience for adults,” Jim shares. “Unlike crowded events and festivals, we offer privacy, tranquility, and immersion in the wild beauty of Pennsylvania's canyon country. Our B&Bs cater to those seeking a well-appointed, nature-focused retreat.”

Reserve a room at one of the two serene lodges or the historic downtown property for a romantic escape or an upscale base for exploring the canyon's wonders.

Three B&Bs with Unique Amenities

All three properties are in or near Wellsboro, Tioga County. 131 Main Street sits two blocks from the village green in downtown Wellsboro. Bear Mountain Lodge is six miles away, and Bear Meadows Lodge is two miles from downtown.

The 10 rooms across these properties feature tiled baths, natural gas fireplaces, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and most include private balconies. Five rooms have private hot tubs, and two offer whirlpool tubs. Both lodges provide bike barns. (See individual room details for full amenities.)

Begin your day with an in-room continental breakfast: muffins, granola bars, fruit, yogurt, and hot beverages. Enjoy it at your leisure without common dining areas or set times. Jim even authored a book, No Cooked Breakfast, highlighting this flexible approach.

Rates range from $129 to $299 per night, varying by property, room, weekday, and season.

Use the secluded Bear Mountain Lodge as your adventure base. After breakfast, bike to the 60-mile Pine Creek Rail Trail through the canyon. Return to unwind in your private indoor whirlpool, outdoor hot tub, or the spacious commons room.

Experience everyday luxury year-round at Bear Meadows Lodge. Spacious rooms like Headwaters or The Wilds boast fireplaces, hot tubs, balconies, and panoramic views. Venture out or simply relax until sunset.

The 131 Main Street property, a circa-1860 home in Wellsboro's historic district, lets you explore charming shops, restaurants, and gaslit boulevards. Unwind on the porch or in the front room with its original full-length windows.

A Year-Round Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Destination

Jim launched Bear Lodges upon retirement. Over 16 years, guests have made it their go-to spot, with many returning dozens of times for anniversaries, special occasions, or winter snowfalls from private hot tubs.

Plan your visit and enjoy specials: 50% off Sunday after Friday-Saturday stays, or 30% off third+ weekday nights. Book directly for perks like stocked refrigerators (water, tea, Gatorade), K-cup variety, picnic bags, handmade soaps, and $10/night town dollars for local spots.
