James Bond 25 Filming Kicks Off in Jamaica: Returning to Ian Fleming's Roots
James Bond, the iconic spy known for globe-trotting adventures without jet lag, begins his 25th film relaxing in Jamaica—a place that truly feels like home.

Daniel Craig's fifth—and possibly final—outing as 007 has commenced filming in Jamaica, the former home of creator Ian Fleming. A former British intelligence officer, Fleming penned most Bond novels at his Goldeneye estate there. Today, it's a luxury hotel overlooking James Bond Beach, site of a Dr. No scene with Sean Connery. Live and Let Die, starring Roger Moore, was also shot partly at Half Moon Bay Resort.

Details are limited, but a live reveal from Jamaica shared key plot points: Bond has retired to a peaceful life in Jamaica until CIA friend Felix Leiter seeks help rescuing a kidnapped scientist. The mission uncovers a villain with dangerous new technology.

Production bases at Pinewood Studios in the UK, with locations in London, Italy, Jamaica, and Norway. Jamaica holds special significance as Bond's birthplace in Fleming's imagination. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli stated: "We're thrilled to return to Jamaica with Bond 25, Daniel Craig's fifth 007 installment, where Ian Fleming created James Bond and Dr. No and Live and Let Die were filmed." Filming started April 28, with release set for April 8, 2020.
Note for travelers: The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office warns of a state of emergency in Jamaica. Most visits are trouble-free, but Kingston sees high crime and violence levels.
