Sandals Resorts Reopens Caribbean All-Inclusive Properties with Rigorous Post-COVID Safety Protocols
In anticipation of welcoming guests back to its luxury all-inclusive Caribbean resorts, Sandals Resorts has detailed its comprehensive safety protocols for the post-COVID-19 era.
The Jamaican-based operator will reopen most of its resorts on June 4, followed by its two Bahamas locations on July 1. Key enhancements include intensified cleaning routines, mandatory pre-shift temperature screenings for staff, and a seamless online check-in process allowing guests to proceed directly to their rooms.
Sandals has rolled out advanced hygiene measures across 18 critical touchpoints, from airport lounges to back-of-house areas like storerooms and offices. Hard surfaces undergo inspection, cleaning, and sanitization every 20 minutes, with at least three checks daily. Hand sanitizer stations are now available throughout resorts, dining areas, and every guest room.
Guest-contact items, such as room keys and welcome cocktail glassware, are sanitized prior to distribution. Hospital-grade disinfectants, electrostatic sprayers, UV-LED inspection lights, air duct sanitization on arrivals/departures, weekly carpet steam-cleaning, and anti-bacterial products in rooms ensure top-tier cleanliness.
Online check-in bypasses the front desk for direct room access. Social distancing is prioritized via reduced airport transfer capacities, extended check-in intervals, spaced seating at restaurants, bars, and beaches. Staff interactions feature nods instead of handshakes; elevators limit to one couple (Sandals) or family (Beaches), with staff using stairs.
All team members wear PPE including face coverings and gloves on property, change uniforms before/after shifts, pass temperature checks and medical clearances per shift. Vendors and partners adhere to the same standards. Each resort features daily-staffed medical stations with registered nurses and 24/7 on-call physicians for peace of mind.
