Best Greek Universities for Professional Development

Best Greek Universities for Professional Development

Greece is the country that gave us Socrates, Pythagoras, Aristotle, Plato, and Thales. Today, Greece is still a bastion of educational achievements. Suppose you're looking to enroll in a university in the country or are just fascinated by the Greek educational system. In that case, this post covers the top five Greek universities for a professional degree.

1. National and Kapodistrian University of Athens This school isn't just seen as the best university in Greece; it also boasts the best medical school (ranked at No. 163 in the world). Ranked in the top 270 global universities, the school has been in operation since 1837. The school currently has about 2500 – 3000 students at each education level and across various faculties. There is only one way to get into this institution's Faculty of Health Sciences: passing the State Panhellenic Examinations.

2. University of Crete According to Times Higher Education, this institution ranks at No.351 in the world. That's saying a lot. Plus, when a university has over 18,000 enrolled students, a robust medical school, and a hospital, you know it's doing something right. The University of Crete has one of the best medical schools (top 3) in the country. Since its establishment in 1973, the school has expanded to run 16 departments across five faculties/schools. These schools include Philosophy (not a surprise inclusion considering Greece's history), Medicine, and Sciences & Engineering.

3. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki This name sounds like something out of Greek mythology. Still, it doesn't take away from the reputable standing of this institution. Established in 1925, the school offers over 41 study programs for undergraduates. The school boasts over 88,000 students, with about 10,000 of them in the Masters and Doctorate programs. This school offers a wide range of programs. These include Clinical Medicine, Computer Science, Engineering, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Environment/Ecology, Agricultural Sciences, and more. According to Global Universities Rankings, this institution takes the second position in Greece, 154 in Europe, and 349 in the world.

4. National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) This institution has evolved from its days as a weekend vocational school for artisans and builders. Originally established as the Royal School of Arts in 1837, NTUA has still maintained its core focus around Engineering and other related programs.  It is ranked 412 in the world, 183 in Europe, and third in Greece by Global Universities Rankings. NTUA's programs include Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, and Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

5. University of Ioannina The youngest school on this list, the University of Ioannina, was formed in 1964 and became independent in 1970. It has over 16,000 students in total, with over 3,500 of them in Masters and Doctorate programs. The institution is big on research, as evidenced by its Biomedical Research Institute. Like most other universities, it also has a fully functional career office. The University of Ioannina is ranked 567 in the world, 258 in Europe, and fifth in Greece, according to Global Universities Rankings. It has several faculties/schools. These include the School of Philosophy, School of Science, School of Health Sciences, School of Economics & Business, School of Engineering, School of Information & Telecommunications, and more. Final Words Whatever your reason for choosing Greece as a destination—education, tourism, work—these schools are a fantastic option to tap into Greece's spirit.
