New Orleans is home to numerous museums that are great for families, many of which are participating in Museum Month this August. Museum Month is a program where one museum membership gets you access to every participating museum for the entire month. If you get a membership to the Children’s Museum, you’ll be able to visit the National WWII Museum, the Southern Food & Beverage Museum and more than a dozen others, many of which are great for children. Louisiana Children’s Museum
Located in the lush greenspace of City Park, the Louisiana Children’s Museum is a treat for children of all ages. Kids will love learning about the Mighty Mississippi through the river exhibit and exploring the great outdoors on the museum grounds. Book your tickets online in advance. You can also grab lunch at Acorn Cafe, the super kid-friendly restaurant located on site.
Southern Food & Beverage Museum
The Southern Food & Beverage Museum is fun for all ages. Full of colorful exhibits showcasing the food and drink of the South, children will enjoy learning about kitchen gadgets, browsing classic memorabilia or participating in one of the many youth-focused events that the museum hosts. Cooking classes catered to families are programming highlights.
The National WWII Museum
Dive into the history of World War II at this nationally recognized, award-winning museum. Exhibits highlight the role of world leaders as well as the everyday men and women who gave their service. Special exhibits, interactive experiences and a 4D theater give children the chance to engage and learn in a variety of ways. Student resources are available for continued learning beyond your museum visit.
New Orleans Jazz Museum
The music never stops in New Orleans—learn about the history of jazz right on the edge of the French Quarter. As part of the Louisiana State Museum collection, the Jazz Museum serves as an important educational facility housed in a historic building: the Old U.S. Mint. Folks of all ages will delight in interactive exhibits, educational programming and live music performances.
