Drag Shows Day and Night: Your Ultimate Guide to Greater Palm Springs
This is a guest post by Gay Desert Guide, your trusted local expert on LGBTQ+ entertainment in the Coachella Valley.
By day, they might serve your meal, help you find the perfect condo, or volunteer at the local LGBTQ+ center. But as the sun sets, these talented performers transform into fabulous drag queens, delivering captivating songs, dances, comedy, and lip-sync routines to pulsing beats—all while rocking full glam makeup, elegant gowns, and sky-high heels.
Drag queens have become iconic stars in Greater Palm Springs. The Desert AIDS Project (D.A.P.), a leading local AIDS service organization, even featured top Coachella Valley performers in its 2017 calendar. Since 2014, D.A.P. has hosted the annual Queen of the Desert lip-sync competition, a major fundraiser and awareness event.

Queen of the Desert highlights the desert's most vibrant drag talent and has launched careers like Jazmyn Simon-Echelon (2015 winner), fan-favorite and HIV activist Pinkie Meringue Shimmer (2016), and staples Bella da Ball and Ethylina Canne. Performers like Champagne Showers and Tommi Rose (Queen of the Desert 2014 and 2016) continue to shine at fundraisers and events, including co-hosting the 2015 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Gala for D.A.P.
