Vietnam Vibes: Refreshing Mango Turmeric Smoothie Recipe

Vietnam Vibes: Refreshing Mango Turmeric Smoothie Recipe

The folks behind The Funnelogy Channel, one of Fathom's 24 Best Travel Blog and Websites, serve up a golden dose of Southeast Asian inspiration. (In written form, too.)

The colors and flavors of this smoothie bring us straight back to Hoi An. Dragonfruit, or pitaya, is native to Central America, but has long been grown in Vietnam, where it is called thanh long, or green dragon. Its mild sweetness blends perfectly with the bold flavors of mango, ginger, and turmeric. The mix of fruits and spices deliver a vitamin and antioxidant kick that's healthy and incredibly quick to make.

We use white-flesh dragonfruit to get the right mix of colors, though if you're not bothered by the hue, feel free to substitute with red-flesh dragonfruit instead. Also note that you can use frozen bananas for an even thicker consistency.

MANGO TUMERIC SMOOTHIE

Serves 2

INGREDIENTS

3 small bananas
1 large ripe mango
1 tsp. freshly grated ginger
1 tsp. freshly grated turmeric
1/2 large white dragonfruit (pitaya blanca)
1/4 c. coconut milk

PREPARATION

Throw everything into a blender or mixer and spin until smooth. The resulting color is a wonderful shade of ochre with the fragrant zing of ginger and turmeric. Welcome to Hội An.
