Hotel Renew: Waikiki's Affordable, Chic Boutique Wellness Retreat

Hotel Renew: Waikiki s Affordable, Chic Boutique Wellness Retreat

Hotel Renew
Honolulu, Hawaii
Trendy, $$

Honolulu’s Waikiki neighborhood was once a secluded hideaway for the native royals. The Hollywood royals came next, when the first exclusive hotels began opening along its now iconic shores. These days, Waikiki is chock-a-block with tropical-themed high-rises offering a bit of beachside bliss to anyone who can get there. Skip the chains and check in to Hotel Renew, a serene boutique property just steps from Hawaii’s most famous stretch of sand. Do not expect palm fronds and Hawaiian prints: Aside from the address, there's nothing traditional about the hotel decor. Mid-century furnishings and pops of millennial pink set the tone on nine floors, offering a bit of sophistication along with those creature comforts you couldn't imagine traveling without, like free WiFi.

The Vibe: Young, beachy sophistication.

Standout Detail: Hawaiians use aloha to mean hello in the warmest of ways. When you arrive at Hotel Renew, aloha comes with a good-for-you tea and a menu of essential oils, from which you can select a custom room scent.

This Place Is Perfect For: City slickers who need to recharge but still want to be surrounded by sleek, contemporary design; small groups (some rooms accommodate four) who will take advantage of the weekly wellness programs and like the idea of scooping their own sachets of lavender in the lobby (daily, 5-10 p.m.) to ensure a good night’s rest.

Rooms: The 72 minimalist rooms have pink accent walls, stylish (millennial-friendly) furnishings, flat-screen TVs, iPod dock alarm clocks, and beverage coolers. Request an ocean view room, from which you’ll feel like you’re hovering over the action on the beach (the other rooms look out onto the city of Waikiki). Small but streamlined bathrooms have Korres products. In-room fitness equipment includes yoga mats, resistance bands, and medicine balls.

On Site: Small pets are welcome. As are cars (with self-parking). And surfboards (they have storage). The hotel provides beach chairs and gear.
