Sisilia Tiseli: Capturing Faraway Wonders in Soothing Hues

Sisilia Tiseli: Capturing Faraway Wonders in Soothing Hues

Sisilia Tiseli, one of our 24 Best Travel Instagrammer 2017,  has a knack for capturing photos of far away places in a soothing color palette. The Amsterdam-based Polynesian takes us through her artistic process.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born and raised on an island in the South Pacific call Tonga. My family and I spent time in Canberra, Australia; then we went back to Auckland, New Zealand. After university, I moved to Sydney, Australia, and met my partner and decided to move to the Netherlands.

The first time I picked up a real camera was in the Netherlands. I don't have a background in photography. It is a hobby I have recently revisited. When I was young, I use to play around with the disposable Kodak cameras that you buy from supermarkets. Later on, during my first year at university, one of my papers was on photography. I guess that is when my love of photography officially began.

How would you describe your photography style?

I am easily inspired by different styles, but I try to create images that feel right to me. I enjoy minimalism as well as the decadence and richness provided by a maximalist viewpoint. I like both light and dark, but lately I have been exploring with images that have a pastel color palette. I'm always looking for balance and calm in my photographs.

What do you love most about photographing on the road?

Anything and everything. There is always something special to see and immortalize.

  • Discover Why Corfu Is My Favorite Greek Island

Of all the places Ive visited so far, Corfu in Greece has to be my favourite for many reasons. The scenery being the main one.
