The Burning of Zozobra

Zozobra, or "Old Man Gloom," is a massive marionette effigy burned at the start of Fiestas de Santa Fe. Symbolizing the release of worries, its incineration kicks off the festivities.

The 93rd Burning of Will Shuster’s Zozobra occurs Friday, September 1, 2017, before Labor Day. Year four of the Decades Project revives the 1950s Rock 'n' Roll era. Gates open at 3:00 p.m., entertainment at 7:00 p.m., burning at 9:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

Since 1712, Fiesta de Santa Fe honors the 1692 reconquest.
