Insane Sausages: Louisiana's Best Boudin Near Lake Charles
Discover Insane Sausages
Boudin is more than a dish—it's a cornerstone of Cajun culture, an art form, and deeply personal. True fans are all in. As a longtime enthusiast, I've found what I believe to be some of Louisiana's finest boudin at Insane Sausages. It's not just delicious; it's exceptional.

Located at 2255 LA-109, Vinton, LA 70668—just a short drive from Lake Charles—this spot in a small town with big hospitality serves up outstanding boudin crafted by a dedicated team.
Owner Derek Gaspard shared insights into their process. Boudin comes smoked or fresh; I prefer the smoked variety for its irresistible aroma. Batches smoke for 5-8 hours in a large smoke room, yielding juicy, flavorful results. Here are standout menu highlights.
Standout Flavors

The Steens Syrup Sausage balances sweet syrup with savory spices. A crisp casing gives way to comforting, perfectly harmonious flavors—reminiscent of childhood breakfasts, but refined.
Boudin Balls and More

Try the Pork Enchilada Boudin Ball, a brilliant Mexican-Cajun fusion. It captures enchilada elements—tortillas, sauce, cheese—in a fried boudin ball, served with Insanity Sauce for a crunchy, addictive bite.

The Chili Cheese Dog Sausage recreates the classic without the mess, stuffed into sausage and served on fresh bread. It's a game-changer for fans.

The bestselling Jalapeño Pepper Jack Pork Sausage pairs spicy jalapeños and melty cheese with balanced heat—perfect with sweet tea.

The Boudin Rollup offers Cajun-Asian fusion with Insanity Sauce. A boudin patty slider on a sweet roll with cream cheese pepper jelly delivers bold sweet-savory notes.

Cajun fries are topped with boudin, five-cheese blend, Insanity Sauce, ranch, and green onions—irresistibly addictive.

I sampled a top-secret recipe too: hint—sweet meets heat. Stay tuned.
The Story Behind Insane Sausages
Louisiana native Derek Gaspard honed his skills making sausage with his dad. After years in Houston, his passion for innovative boudin flavors led him home. He'd make 100 pounds on days off, fueling demand. In 2015, he launched Insane Sausages at the renovated Vinton location, opening in March 2019.

The team produces 18-25 flavors weekly Monday-Thursday, open Friday-Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Take home fresh boudin from their fridges.
Menu Favorites
The Cajun Hangover sandwich features two boudin rollups, crumbled boudin ball, Insanity Sauce, and ranch on a warm bun. The Mexican Hangover uses pork enchilada rollups and ball with chipotle aioli and ranch.

Worth the drive from Lake Charles—it's an experience. The family-like staff, led by Derek, his dad, Kenny, Scotty, and Ron, creates a welcoming vibe.
