Discover the Vibrant Nightlife & Bar Scene in Brisbane's West End

West End is one of Brisbane’s original suburbs that keeps growing and changing — culminating in a melting pot of culture that is beloved and celebrated by locals and visitors alike.

The quirky, local style is diverse, alternative and vintage, with the shops, restaurants and entertainment venues reflecting this eclectic atmosphere.

Once farming land and then a prominent site for industries, West End now boasts a popular dining and live-music scene. The wonderful mix of flavours introduced by migrants – Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, and more – has meant diners are spoilt for choice. And this goes for the bar scene as well.

Boundary St is the pulsing hub of the suburb, with its high concentration of bars, pubs and cafes. From retro-styling to modern furnishings, the bars will satisfy all needs – cocktails to craft beer.

Say hello to Archive Beer Boutique and Bistro. Its stated aim is to increase levels of appreciation of craft beer and this is backed by more than 80 varieties on tap. Joining it more recently are two micro breweries, Catchment Brewing Co and Brisbane Brewing Co – both on Boundary St. Want something less hoppy? Covent Garden is a gin specialty bar, offering over 180 plus gins to choose from or, if whiskey is your passion, turn the corner onto Browning Street and Cobbler will provide many a tipple with a side of old-world class.

No less impressive are other popular watering holes such as the Rumpus Room, Jungle, The End, Lychee Lounge, Boundary Hotel and Hotel West End, to name a few.

For live music, try The Bearded Lady, Jungle Bar and Loft West End.

How to get there: Unless you get in early, parking can be a problem. West End can easily be reached by public transport, with regular bus services via the city and surrounding suburbs. South Brisbane and South Bank railway stations are within walking distance of Boundary St.

  • Rosebud: Paris s Enchanting Winter Bar Haven

Novelist Alexander Maksik lives in Paris. Of course he found the perfect bar.PARIS – Rosebud is a winter bar. A place to come when its dark early. I found it in December, my second year in Paris. I was very cold, coming home from a party. I passed by and saw their art nouveau lamp glowing in the window. I liked the look of it, the lamp, the blue velvet curtains, the quiet hum of conversation. To look at it, rue Delambre is unremarkable.
