The Doctor’s Inn – Berea’s Premier Bed & Breakfast
Location:
617 Chestnut Street
Berea, KY 40403
For Kentucky hospitality at its most gracious, The Doctor’s Inn is Berea’s premier Bed & Breakfast. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians just off Interstate 75, the inn sits at the heart of Kentucky’s designated capital of Folk Arts and Crafts. Elegant lodging and a warm welcome await every guest.
The Greek‑Revival home offers sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Each guest room is furnished with genuine Berea College antiques, oriental rugs, stained‑glass windows, and deep jewel‑tone colors. Private baths accompany every room, ensuring a luxurious stay.
The property was originally built by Dr. John Baker and his wife, Mattye Belle Kincaid, while their son Bill attended dental school. After many years away, Dr. Bill and his wife, Biji, returned to Berea to realize their dream of providing comfortable, upscale lodging in their hometown. The inn’s friendly “Hound of the Inn,” a chocolate Labrador named Whitman, greets guests at the door.
Leisure amenities include satellite television, stereo music, a baby‑grand piano, and a library stocked with books and magazines to suit every interest. A round of golf can be arranged at the local club for a modest greens fee. Berea’s Old Town District is a short walk away, offering jewelry, pottery, weaving, handmade furniture, glass‑blowing, and antiques. Visitors can also tour the renowned Berea College campus and observe students in their many craft studios.
Day‑trip options are plentiful: Kentucky’s horse‑farm region, Keeneland Race Track, Renfro Valley, Eastern Kentucky University, the University of Kentucky, historic sites such as White Hall (home of Cassius Clay), Ashland (home of Henry Clay), Frankfort (state capital), historic Midway, and Fort Boonesborough, or explore mountain‑biking and hiking trails in Daniel Boone National Forest.
Start each day with coffee or tea and a morning paper, followed by a healthy breakfast or a full country breakfast prepared by the hosts. Elegance, comfort, and hospitality are yours at a modest price.
