A weekend stay at Monarch Beach Resort is always impressive itself, from rich accommodations to impeccable service. “Guests are treated like royalty from the moment the valet opens the car door to the attentive check-in staff and poolside servers,” Kompanik noted.

Activities throughout a stay in Dana Point could include yoga in the park, hosted by iHeartYoga, to an evening on the OC Wine Cruise hosted by Dana Wharf and Sportfishing. “There’s nothing like starting the day with yoga cliffside at Lantern Bay Park, overlooking panoramic vistas of the harbor. These well-attended classes led by instructors from iHeartYoga are donation-based and reflect California’s quintessential coastal lifestyle at its best.” And of course, it’s never a trip to Dana Point without a whale watching excursion. “…we were treated to pods of playful dolphins frolicking about the waters and of course, a few sightings of migrating whales.”

In between it all, meal-time in Dana Point is exquisite. A visit to Raya, Coastal Kitchen, and Bourbon Steak were all on Kompanik’s must-eat list. “You won’t find a Cuban sandwich this good in all of Orange County, and their red cabbage slaw is probably the best we’ve ever tasted–anywhere,” Kompanik raves about Coastal Kitchen’s fresh Californian food.

“Dana Point, the unpretentious, laid-back Southern California surf town with a magnificent thriving harbor and awesome beach vibe. When all is said and done, it’s hard to believe there’s so much to do and see in the 6.4 square miles of Pacific paradise. As with any impressive coastal location, one visit is never quite enough.”
