Tepotzotlán: A UNESCO‑Designated Pueblo Mágico Near Mexico City

The Pueblo Mágico de Tepotzotlán (Magical Town of Tepotzotlán) is located in the Estado de México, just two hours away travelling by land from Mexico City, making it an ideal destination for a weekend treat. It also has a warm climate most of the year.

 

Know more of the old MexicoDeclared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, this cozy town invites you to discover its attractions and walk through its cobblestone streets. Get to the Temple of San Francisco Javier and let yourself be surrounded by its Novohispanic Baroque architecture and take a minute to admire the altar, which is carved in gold.

 

Its interior was lined with altarpieces dedicated to the Passion of Jesus Christ, as well as to San Juan Nepomuceno, San Francisco Javier, the Virgin of Guadalupe and San Ignacio de Loyola, designed by Higinio de Chávez and Miguel Cabrera during the 18th century.

 

When leaving this temple, we recommend that you walk a few meters to your left to visit the National Museum of the Viceroyalty, where you can see different collections of sacred paintings and sculptures. It also has a permanent exhibition on display called “México Virreinal”.
